Touring the City of Makers Travel is much more accessible to the commonwealth in the 21st century than it was in the past. According to Jeff Chu in his article for Time magazine, entitled, The Roads Now Taken, journey is one that will â€Å"test [your] limits and nourish [your] soul†. (Chu) The luxury of traveling is something that many may consider to be relaxing and fun; something that people sometimes take for granted. These destinations in the Netherlands are venues that offer opportunities to learn about the cultural identity of the country as well as provide insight to the its history and how it has shaped the society and lifestyle in which the Dutch experience. This paper will describe an adventure in Amsterdam that will test my limits†¦show more content†¦After visiting the concert hall and the museum, a night of good food and rest is needed. I want to learn about Dutch culture, history, activities, geographical features, architecture, society, and cuisine. According to the I Amsterdam website, â€Å"From its earliest days, Amsterdam has been a bustling hub of commerce that welcomed other cultures with open arms.† Founded as a trading city, Amsterdam retains its character as an open and tolerant society that values building relationships with other cultures. I Amsterdam also states that â€Å"...the city is considered by many to be the gay capital of Europe.† The variety of the people that live in Amsterdam allows everyone to be themselves. Unlike in other cities, Amsterdammers don’t feel pressure from society to conform to an ‘ideal’ image. As a country that has become a melting pot to over 180 different countries as well as embraced a variety of different lifestyles, religions and beliefs, it it no mystery why the Netherlands is a desirable tourist destination. This journey will test my ability to be physically prepared to walk to the destinations that I wish to visit as well as being open minded to trying new foods. Dutch food isn’t as well known as well as the delicacies of other European countries, but it should be worth trying.
